Welcome to Vern and Helen Gillett Family History
Why a family history Website?
This project was inspired by Robert V. Gillett, oldest son of Vern and Helen Gillett.
His many years of dedicated research into the Gillett family history led to a remarkably complete
record of our ancestors up until about 1993. The major portion of the Gillett genealogy and family
history through 1993 is the result of his work. Of course he was provided invaluable information
from a number of people from all over the United States, but he put it all together. Much of his
work was done before cell phones, email, and the widespread use of computers. In other words, he
did it the hard way and the expensive way; corresponding with letters and the telephone. For this
we owe him a debt of gratitude. Unfortunately, he did not live to see his work brought together in
a family history book. He passed from this life on April 10th, 2012. This family history website is
dedicated to him.
Most of us have hundreds or even thousands of family photos, bits and pieces of family history,
family letters and documents, family stories and memories, and lots of other material regarding our
families. A family history book provides a place to bring all of this information together in one
place to be shared by all of us and generations to come. It seems that most of us want to know about
our heritage; what nationalities were our ancestors, when did they come to America, where did they
live over the years, what were their occupations, did any of them serve in the Revolutionary War, the
Civil War or other wars, what did our grandparents do and where did they live, what are some
interesting stories about our ancestors, etc., etc..
As far as we know our family has been mostly God fearing, Christian people. Evidence started
with some of our family who were Puritans. They came to America for religious reasons. Vern and
Helen were faithful members of the Christian Church in Guthrie. All of the Gilletts I have known
were good, kind, generous people. No horse thieves, bank robbers, etc. have been recorded.
Our goal is to provide an interesting and clear picture of the Vernon H. and Helen C. Gillett
family history over the years without overwhelming the readers with confusing details. So, hang on
and enjoy the ride through history.
An excellent genealogy of our Gillett family history from the 1500s until Vernon Gillett's
father, Alanson Otho Gillett, can be found on the website:http://www.genyourway.com
The research for the website was done by another Bill Gillett (George William Gillett) whose
Great-Great Grandfather, Joel G. Gillett is also Vernon H. Gillett's Great Grandfather.
